Camera Control

(Click on the photos on this page for a larger image and additional comments.)

This page replaces the old “Electronics” page. It will still cover some basic electronic timers used to activate the cameras but I am expanding the topic to include other aspects of controlling cameras. As I expanded my photography to include capturing photographs and movies from the ground my equipment needed started to grow. I now use a tower to support the rail for the rocket but also to hold the cameras for different perspective.

The Camera Controller page describes my controller used to start the cameras, ignite the motor(s) for the rocket, and pitch the cameras mechanism.

The Camera Mounts page shows the various methods I have used to mount the cameras and to pitch them as the rocket takes off.

The Activation Switch page shows the details of the switch I use to detect the rockets first movement. Although it is not a complicated device it is essential to start the cameras pitching upward at the critical moment.

Timer 1 and Timer 2 pages shows of basic electronic timers used to activate still cameras.

This view shows some of the complexity of setting up for a launch. To capture some exciting photos and movies, the cameras have to be placed correctly and controlled carefully.
